South Asia, being one of the most populous areas of the world, has many diverse and interesting cultures and ideals between peoples. The three main countries that I studied, China, Pakistan and India, are great examples of this diversity. One of the most interesting the things about China is it's extremely long history. Dating back as early as 1.7 million years ago, its astonishing how many of the early beliefs these people still hold. China holds nearly 20% of the worlds entire population, with a staggering amount of 1.4 billion people. China consists of an incredible amount of 56 different ethnic groups, the largest group being the Han. While the history and the diverse cultures make China incredible to study, the beautiful scenery and rich historical landmarks make it even better. With so many different things to see in China, varying from deeply rooted ethnic areas, to picturesque landscapes. Many of the people in Pakistan are Muslim, and many more Muslims continue to migrate into Pakistan as time goes on. Islam is the dominant cultural influence and Pakistan and has been around for hundreds of years in the country. Since the earthquake in 2005 that harmed the tourism in Pakistan, it has continued to grow back to its former amount. Pakistan is an extremely beautiful country with lots of extremely beautiful land and monuments. In India one thing about their society that is very unlike our own is how families take precedent over individuals. One of India's most well known features are the Himalayan Mountains, which invoke awe of people around the world. India is the worlds largest democracy, and in the past two decades has improved immensely. The cultural diversity and wonderful views make India a popular tourism site, and also an interesting place to learn about. These three countries only show a small point of view of how magnificent and diverse all of Asia is.
Struggles the people in Asia face
One of the biggest struggles faced by the region that I studied is the conflict between Pakistan and India. These two countries divided into their current states in 1947 after lots of fighting between the two areas. May of these violent attacks between the two were about continued disagreements about Kashmir and the areas uses. The continued fighting between the two has been about the occupation of Kashmir in hopes to gain many of its valuable resources. Another large problem that is faced by these countries is the struggle to escape poverty and to avoid falling into it. According to Business Today, 30% of India's population is below the $1.90 a day measure of poverty. India also has 2.5 times the amount of people under the poverty line as those in Nigeria. Positive progress has already been made in these countries and they hope to continue growing. The people in these countries hope to overcome these struggles and their governments are working diligently to help them.
What Makes Asia Beautiful?
Many things make Asia beautiful, however the first thing that comes to mind for me is the breathtaking views of the area. The cities are incredible, while some still plagued with smog, many remain seemingly untouched and beautiful. The rural areas show labor and growth of economy just by seeing how much work is put into everything the people do. The interactions between people who know, and don't know each other, is very respectful and something many people could strive for. The history behind many of the different areas in South Asia all run very deep and are very old. This old history gives for many many layers of things to view and study, and also gives an incredible background for levels of growth. The diversity is another thing that truly makes Asia beautiful. Large numbers of people with very different ethnic and cultural backgrounds are all combined in Asia and as people continue to immigrate this diversity will only grow. The diversity gives many different perspectives on similar ideas, and also shows that people can come to the same conclusion in many different ways. People can learn to do things in new ways or teach others how to better accommodate to some traditions of the people in the area they have inhabited, which will grow the overall knowledge of the area. South Asia is an extremely beautiful part of our world and I hope to be able to travel there some day now that I feel I have learned so much about the countries withing and its people. I would love be given the opportunity to witness some of the things I researched and viewed pictures of first hand as to gain an even deeper understanding of what is truly going on in these places and for the people that live there.
